4Great for entertaining and teaching!Jan 01, 2008
By Jean A. Jones
I teach mentally handicapped adults basic skills such as how to count, how to recognize money, how to tell time, and how to recognize letters or attempt to read. This product definitely helps my students attempt to read by its entertaining graphics, entertaining story (I could hear it over and over again!), and the way the words light up as they are spoken so beginning readers can attempt to read karoke style like beginning singers try to read and sing lyrics at the same time at a karoke bar! Any of the Dr. Seuss titles like Green Eggs and Ham like this one, or Cat in the Hat would work well with both mentally handicapped adults, and I suspect, beginning readers of any age. . ..

5Highly recommend this fun and educational computer bookJul 15, 2009

This computer book not only reads to your child but also has interactive games. It is both fun and educational for young children. I bought it about 2 yrs ago and my child still loves to play it.

1No value for the moneyDec 08, 2009

I bought this for my 4 year old daughter... One would think that a game for a 4 year old would last longer than 1 hour. She finished it and was ready to put it away forever in less than 1 hour and that included the time to install the software.

In short you are better off buying the book for your child because that is really all this is, it reads the story to them and then has 3 of the lamest games that have likely ever been created for a computer. Don't waste your time on this one, save yourself 20 dollars and buy them the book.

2Buggy Software-Great ContentJan 12, 2012
By Semperwise
When it works (PC version running on Win7), my kids (5 and 3) really love this. But on their laptop, it runs in a small window which can't be sized (as it is 'full-screen'), and is clearly designed for computers of long ago. If I connect it to an external monitor, it runs in true full screen (have yet to figure out why), but is just as likely to crash at any time. Bought this with Cat in the Hat which does not run at all on Win7 (at least not for us) without almost immediately crashing.

I work in computers so please trust me that I've done everything possible to get these games to run well and normally.

Very disappointed. These titles are definitely from the island of forgotten and outdated software. A real shame as the content is actually quite good. If the developers took just a quick moment to update these games/books they would still be very popular.

Bottom line, unless your computer was new during the Clinton administration you will be buying a heap of frustration and not much else.

5Ace in the holeJul 04, 2010
By D. McGilvray "reader"
As a teacher, I was faced with three 1st grade students with a variety of severe behavior problems (associated with autism, emotional disturbances, and ADHD) who WOULD NOT WORK- not under any circumstances- not for any sort of tangible reinforcement. Even after consulting our behavior specialists, I was at a loss as to how to get them to engage in anything academic. I discovered a dusty copy of this CD in our library one day, and was amazed at the reaction of these 3 boys. They would work with me on academic tasks as long as this was the carrot dangled. Not only would the prospect of a few minutes spent with this CD get them to work- but this was a reward that provided further academic reinforcement in itself- and the boys didn't even feel they were practicing reading. These non-readers actually began to read copies of the book. I read another reviewer who said she had difficulty getting it to run on a Mac. I encountered a little difficulty getting it to run on the various school computers (not the most up-to-date as you can imagine) that we tried, but usually was successful. I agree with that reviewer- I also wish this CD (and ALL the Living Books CDs) would be updated. I wonder if the makers realize how much children love these CDs.
