NOT what I expectedMar 28, 2010 This program is NOT what I expected, especially that Reader Rabbit is so famous. Like one review said, it doesn't really teach with visual clues how to add or substract. There are just questions and 4 answers in that particular game, and you have to pick the right answer. I thought I would find a program to help me teach my child to UNDERSTAND these things, not to have the child memorize the answers. My child is a beginner, never heard about addition or substractions before. It is not that I expect a program or a game to be my child's teacher, but it could be a good help.
And one more thing that dissapointed me was that sometimes it is not clear what you need to do. I had to guess that I needed to click in the window (random) when one game was over, to have another one start.
And why is the window so small, I don't see it on the whole screen, it is just maybe half or so, in the middle of the screen. Maybe this is a particular case, I don't know.
I need to do more research for better Math games.
(I did find some very good reading DVD's. Not Reader Rabbit. I got that one too, but I am much more pleased with Leap Into Phonics, the BEST so far for my 3 year old who is learning to read)

These are greatFeb 01, 2010 I love the Reader Rabbit's learning tools and my daughter would play with this all day if I allowed her too but because of her age she's only allowed small increments at a time. Great for kids.

Good but doesn't teach skillsMar 28, 2009 This is a good program for reviewing skills that your child has already learned. My daughter can count and recognize #s 1-20 but does not know how to add or subtract yet. The program has "adapted" to the fact that she can do this but then she is stuck when it asks her what 5+2 is or 15-13. It doesn't seem to be able to "adapt" backwards again and does not teach her how to add or subtract. I guess it figures if it asks her the same question over and over again, she will eventually memorize the answer. I would love it if the program would show her how to add using visual cues. It can't be too hard to show 5 apples + 2 apples and let her count the total. My daughter has a lot more patience learning these skills on the computer then when I try to show her myself. True product of the technology age I guess!
