Description:

Year: 2012, Place: Pripyat, the wasted city near Chernobyl, site of the world's most devastating nuclear accident. Decades later, unstable and inexplicable artifacts with malevolent powers are discovered within the zone. High risks do not stop the S.T.A.L.K.E.Rs, paramilitary adventurers and looters from entering the zone for profit. They are willing to face death to make a fortune by retrieving and selling those precious artifacts. When 5 military helicopters disappear in the zone, you must go undercover as a S.T.A.L.K.E.R and face off against mutants, an onslaught of enemy creatures, and other bizarre atrocities that reveal the true face of terror. Where most first person shooters rely on relentless action to engage their players, Call of Pripyat goes in an entirely different direction: allowing for long moments of silence amidst a desolate landscape and an ever changing vista. It's the stuff grade-A horror movies are made of. The haunting atmosphere tries the nerves of even the most seasoned gamer. The environment is dynamic: day and night alternate and are filled with thunderstorms and sunshine. Deadly radioactive emissions occur periodically but unpredictably, killing anyone and anything who cannot find shelter. Live the lif

5Superb wasteland masterpieceAug 06, 2011

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat is an incredibly well crafted game, rich with depth, challenge, opportunity, and motivation. The sequel to the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Call of Pripyat has some enhancements over the original that make it even more immersive and enjoyable.

The gameplay and the environment are the best features by far, and at the top of a long list of features I enjoyed about the game. The game is visually pleasing, though not the best graphics. However, the blend of the visual quality coupled with the motion of everything from characters and NPC's to the sway of grass in the wind, and even the change in weather, presents a very real and very immersive game experience. The gameplay itself is rather smooth, once you get used to the controls and the interface. The combat is great and based largely on the player's ability and the quality of the weapon. Furthermore, opponent AI shows a degree of realism and sophistication that encourages you to adapt, rather than opponents who just savagely rush and shoot at you. And, though many reviews had this as a negative, the vast expanse of the game was something that I think added to the realism, and indeed, the suspense of the game.

Here are a few other features I thoroughly enjoyed:
+ Unlike it's predecessor, where artifacts lay around like acorns, the methods of acquiring artifacts in Call of Pripyat are vastly more challenging, and more rewarding.
+ NPC interaction is great, and most NPCs offer some good data, tasks, and/or story element that add a little something to the game. Sometimes it becomes laborious, though, especially when you have to speak with the same NPC's over and again.
+ Weapon and armor modifications are great! It adds a level of personalization to your character.
+ Radiation exposure could be handled a bit better, but its prevalence is well distributed in the game.
+ The storyline is pretty good, though, I admit, the motivations of your character aren't necessarily stressed. The good thing is that actions throughout the game are represented at the ending, which offers a good amount of 'replayability.'
+ a lot of the hidden stashes are very cleverly hidden, and are often challenging to find. Finding them is an accomplishment.

Some things that can use improvement:

- some quest items can be sold, and never regained. Though it TOTALLY makes things more realistic, it also can be frustrating.
- I've had a couple of instances of being stuck in a location on the game. Very frustrating. Though, serves me right for trying to find a back way around things.
- Another reviewer added, and I agree, that saving often is key, as autosaves are infrequent.
- Some of the monsters just look weird. Nothing that affects gameplay, just weird.

All in all, I've played this several times, and keep wanting more each time. I love games that keep me coming back for more, and each S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game I've played does just that, and does it wonderfully!

4FunApr 24, 2011

I had played all S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games up till this one and honestly was impressed and disappointed at the same time...The difficulty in the other two games was incredibly high, this game removed all doubt of the series making progress into the "pick up and play" department. It's easy to get into and even easier to get addicted to. Its fun finding weapons and then tweaking them, and theres more exploration so you may find hidden special weapons that you can use the rest of the game in the first 10 minutes if you know where to look. All in all I put, easily, 20 hours in and I don't think I'm close to finishing. Also all the people with DX11, you're going to love the tessellation and light effects.

4All-around great gameSep 06, 2011

Lots of action, with lots of missions in between A bit slow and repetitive at times, but the overall feel, plot, story-line work well together. A classic that has been reviewed many times before now.

5Awesome ExperienceJul 12, 2011
By Robert J. Karp
I loved this game. I have never encountered anything like it. It is part adventure, part puzzle-solving, part shooter, and part role playing. This was my first encounter with the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series so you do not need any previous experience. However, the game is extremely complicated (in my opinion) and I could not make any progress until I consulted an online guide. Honestly, I don't know how anyone figured this thing out for the first time and how long that must have taken. But with the guide in hand I was able to really enjoy the game and all it has to offer. The first time through I missed several missions and made some other mistakes that made the finish less than satisfactory (I didn't have the guide in hand when I started). But my second time through I had a much more complete experience and I am hopeful my third attempt will be better yet. You can play this all the way through with different results and challenges each time because decisions you make along the way change how the game unfolds. I think that is really enjoyable. It's like having several different games all in the same box. And you can improve your performance each time or experiment to see the impact different decisions can have. Finally, the graphics in this game are second-to-none. But that comes at a price. This game is more graphics intensive and demanding than even original Crysis. It is the most hardware-taxing game I have yet played. But if you have the equipment for it, the graphics (and sound) are just outstanding.

The only negative I have is that it is all too easy to get fully immersed in the game such that you forget to save and you can easily lose an ungodly amount of progress that way. There are not a lot of automatic saves so please try to remember to save frequently. After you forget a couple of times, you will probably remember from then on!

5Best Stalker (Unmodded)Jul 22, 2011
By D. Butts
For 9 bucks this game is well worth buying. Despite few drastic changes to the original formula, I'm impressed by the level of detail that this team put into this Stalker. I would even go so far as to compare the depth of interaction to Fallout 1 or 2. On top of this
there are multiple outcomes for many situations.

Its graphics are little improved over the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R game, but it seems those efforts were put into making it a more rich experience.

GOOD GAME!
