5Cheap, compact and fast!May 17, 2006
By Kristi Kennelly
This little hub is just about everything you could want it to be. It's extremely compact, I don't think it's physically possible to have a smaller 4 port USB hub. At the same time it's also very solid and feels durable. The hub provides plenty of power and charges my ipod. A handy LED light turns on when the hub is plugged into your computer. I haven't done any formal benchmarks, but my ipod updates at the same song-a-second rate as it normally does when connected directly. I suppose that the hub does impose a certain bandwidth limit, so that you cannot have 4 devices transferring at the full USB 2.0 transfer rate at once, but that's to be expected. This would be excellent for any laptop user with a dearth of ports, or someone who just happens to need to connect a few more devices to their already maxed out system.

This usb hub is EXCELLENT!! its small and compact, it actually communicates at usb 2.0 speeds, and the best part is that it doesn't need a separate power supply just to opperate. This hub is designed to get all the power it needs from the usb port. Overall this is the most well designed hub I've seen and with it having such a low price tag you can't go wrong!

1What happened?Apr 12, 2008

I have purchased several Targus items in the past and have had no problems...UNTIL NOW. I only have 2 USB ports in my laptop and with all the new fun gadgets that connect to your computer now; I just needed a few extra. The Targus mini USB is great by design, nice and compact, and each port is far enough apart to fit any standard size USB plug side by side (which is what several other people complained about other similar products.) I tried plugging it into my laptop and then connecting my wireless mouse into it and it worked for a few minutes and then appeared to lose connection. I plugged in my iPhone charger and it appeared to keep losing my connection and i kept seeing my phone disconnect and reconnect to iTunes while it was sitting there charging. The frustrating thing was that I was downloading podcasts and it kept messing it up. I also tried plugging my 500 GB memory external hard drive into it and it seemed to keep that connection ok, as long as i didn't put anything else into any of the other ports. Once I started plugging other things into it, it kept disconnecting and reconnecting things to my computer. Bottom-line, it DOES connect things to your computer without additional software, and it is a plug and play (which is really great.) BUT, I have not found any item that will stay connected for any length of time. It's like an irritating dropped call. Sure you can call them back and have a good connection when you do, but you know it is only a matter of time until your call gets dropped again. And hopefully you are not in the middle of downloading, or backing up anything and have something corrupted as a result of its instability. Sorry Targus, either this one snuck past quality control OR someone needs to take another look at why so many people seem to have a problem with it connecting to LAPTOPS. Other's report that it seems to work well with their desktops, I have not tried it in my desktop yet. (But I don't need it there anyway!)Ultra Mini USB 2.0 4 Port Hub

5Nice Little Hub for a Laptop - Works Great on my Dell D600Jan 01, 2007
By tagger9 "tagger9"
Unlike a previous reviewer, my targus mini-hub was picked up right away under XP running on a Dell Latitude D600 laptop. I shows up in my Hardware Devices as a USB 2.0 hub. Everything I've hooked up to it so far works just fine (webcam, mouse, etc). Very handy size, and I like the LED indicator light that lets you know when its connected.

4Compact and usefulSep 11, 2007

Bought this for my laptop but I ended up putting it on my old G4 iMac. It replaced an older external powered Belkin USB hub which always had a problem with certain USB devices such as a Canon printer and flash drives. This little hub works great with all devices that I intend to hook up to the computer now. The Canon printer works as do my flash drives as well as my laser printer and USB powered sparkle lava lamp.

So far it works great and I have three less USB cables and one less AC adapter cluttering up the desk. Recommended.
