5Two Great Games! Both Educational AND Fun!Jul 31, 2003
By Jada Petersen "Professional Abecedarian"
As an elementary school computer teacher, I can attest that Treasure Cove is one of the most popular "free time" activities at my school for grades 2-5. With sound and question reading turned on, however, kids as young as kindergarten can enjoy this game. I purchased both games for my 8 year old daughter for the summer, though I also got caught up in playing them! The games are quite lengthy in order to "win", but are engaging enough to keep kids wanting to play that long. Also, after "winning", kids can continue to play for as long as they want. Of the two, I definitely prefer Treasure Cove for its ease of play as well as the questions; Treasure Mountain appears to be more of a "vintage" game with less fluid graphics, awkward controls, and questions that are more confusing, even for an adult. Treasure Mountain also requires that your monitor resolution and color depth be changed, which is a hassle to do every time the game is played (though it's a great opportunity to teach your kid how to change their own monitor settings!) All in all, the games are quite educational and fun, especially combined in such an inexpensive bundle!

3Very old but educational gameDec 13, 2005
By M. Muin
The game was probably developed around 1996 - 1997. Graphics is poor compared to current educational games. It's jewel case states compatibility for Win 95, 98 and ME.

We were not able to install it on an laptop with Win XP. It kept looking for a specific file for our video and sound card. But installation on a Win 2000 SP4 desktop went smoothly.

The game is designed to run in 256-colors at 640x480. It will run on higher colors but the graphics won't look good. For current systems, you need to change Display Modes before or during playing the game.

Game play is 2-dimensional. Do not expect any 3D animation. But the educational value is great. There are multiple choice quizzes about rhymes, numerical order, similar sounds, ending with same letter, etc. It also involves shapes, numbers and properties (color, big, etc.)

Overall, the game has good educational value, but if you expect something truly interactive or 3D, you will be disappointed.

5Great educational and FunFeb 10, 2006

My son started playing the Treasure Mountain when he was 4. I think it really helped in his math development. The game is setup so that the child does many things and then is given something at the top of the mountain. This motivated my son to play and play.

I'm buying it again for a young nephew to give him an advantage in math.

on the cover it may say that the ages are 5-9 but my kids are 12, 18 and 23 and they all still play it.

yes it might be old but everytime you play it, it gets more fun and exiting.

so if you have a kid who has never played it they should try it

oh and i still play it
