4My daughter loved it!Nov 01, 2004
By Brandi Green
My daughter (7yrs. at the time) loved this game. It is hard to find software that is really fun and educational at the same time. Most of the software I buy for her, I have to load it and play at least once so that I can show her how to play. The Zoombinis Island Odyssey was the exception. She had no problem playing it alone. It has a help screen with each activity that explains in detail. It is very easy to navigate and has multiple levels of play. We loved it so much that we now have The Zoombinis Logical Journey and Mountain Rescue.

5Great game, works on Windows 7 with some fiddlingFeb 19, 2010

I agree with all the positive reviews regarding the winning combination of logical thinking, cute graphics, and overall fun.

I just want to put in my two cents regarding Windows 7 (64 bit) compatibility. I got it to run smoothly, but only after a bit of difficulty. I had to run the installer with an XP service pack 2 compatibility setting: instead of letting the installer run, right click the setup exe on the CD and either set compatibility directly through properties or use the compatibility troubleshooter. The program was then set to run in Windows 95 compatibility. However, the version I have has a Learning Company "wrapper" on it--the annoying start-up launcher with load music that shows other Learning Company programs (e.g., reader rabbit), too, and adds another step every time one wants to play. The start-up launcher would run fine, but then the Zoombini program, while it would run, had no sound. Changing compatibility settings on the Learning Company start-up launcher item labeled "Zoombini's Island Odyssey" on the "start" menu had no effect for me, I think because it was not affecting how the actual program was run.

The solution for me was to skip the Learning Company start-up and start the Zoombini program directly. I had to find where it was installed, and made a new shortcut (I just put it on the desktop) directly to that, and set that to run with a XP service pack 2 compatibility setting. Voila! So far, so good. Probably just setting the right compatibility settings on the actual program file, while still using the launcher, would work, too.

5Zerbles' delightApr 08, 2005
By Alyssa A. Lappen
If you liked Zoombinis' Logical Journey and Mountain Rescue--or even if you never heard of either one--this game will proove a fantastic bit of fun and learning for your children. Verbal skills and reading ability are not required, as the narrator explains all the challenges in the game as one goes along.

The characters differ somewhat from the first two Zoombinis CDs. The Zoombinis are still the mainstays of course, but here they have to figure out how to catapult themselves onto Zoombini Isle, feed Zerbles and help the moths hatch. The puzzles are challenging but fun, and children learn logic and math in the process of doing them.

Another winner that is impossible to memorize, and changes every time one plays. Great for all ages.

This game is a blast and I play it with my 6 year old grandson and he loves it too. It's a great learning tool. Enjoy!

3Wish it wouldn't crash so much...Mar 07, 2011

I loved this game as a child, and when I saw it for so cheap on Amazon I bought it on a whim. Everything is exactly as I remember and the game itself is still pretty fun. However, the game encounters an error and shuts itself down at least 70% of the time I start it up (Dell laptop with Windows XP). I would have been able to beat the game already if it didn't crash within a few minutes of starting, usually before I am able to save my progress. I'm not very tech-savvy but I guess its just not very compatible with the newer systems, sadly.
